Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona

Argentine football star Lionel Messi has sent a letter to Barcelona informing the club he wants to leave the team. 

After losing 8–2 to Catalan Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu told Barca TV that Messi had repeatedly said he wanted to complete his career at Barca.

“He is still the best player in the world, and we have him with us … one cycle ends and another begins but in the Messi era.”

In July 2017, Barcelona and Messi announced the extension of their contract to keep Messi with the team until June 30, 2021 and reported that it would cost 5,000 565,000 (5,000 645,000) per week. Messi, 33, has been with the club since 2000.

Former Barcelona defender Cars Puyol has tweeted his support for Messi captain and teammate Argentina. “Respect and praise, Leo,” Puyol wrote. “All my support is friendly.”
