BEIJING: A Chinese man has brought a "lucky" Chinese phone number online for 2.25 million yuan, or $ 300,000.
The fifth number ends in eight, and in China the word “eight” is equivalent to the Mandarin word “prosperity”. The number is among the property seized and auctioned by a court in Beijing, and the online sale attracted more than five thousand bids between Saturday and Sunday.
Phone users in China – especially companies that want to impress customers and business partners – often pay a premium for a combination of points they feel lucky.
Eight points are highly sought after, highly valued in China, and the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics began on the eighth day of the eighth month of August, officially at eight o’clock.
The fourth number, which sounds like “death” in Mandarin, is the least favorite. The winner of Sunday’s auction has 400 days to pay 400 yuan and join the action.
The phone number, which ends with eight servants, holds the record on the auction platform for receiving 3.91 million yuan in the 2017 auction. Seven tones and relationships such as “arises” or “summary of life” are considered a good number.
